Indigo and Shibori Dyeing Workshop
Instructed by: Paula Benjaminson

Fibre Artist Paula will demonstrate setting up an indigo vat and preparing cloth for dyeing. Participants will have the opportunity to learn and practice several traditional forms of shibori, including folding, clamping, and sewing. The instructor will have many examples on hand, and each participant can choose the style(s) they want to try. Two pre-washed cotton bandanas or small scarf sized pieces of fabric will be provided. Participants can also bring a piece of pre-washed fabric from home to dye. Cellulose fibers (cotton, linen, rayon, ramie) accept color best.
Please limit yourself to one extra piece, and avoid bulky items like towels or bedding, since vat space and time are limited.  All dyeing supplies will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring long dishwashing gloves and plastic bags to take wet fabric home. Please wear old clothes and an apron if possible. This is a messy and fun process! N95 mask required for safety.
Saturday, December 17th – 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
Ages: 14 to adult (ages 10 to 13 with a participating adult)
